Digital sovereignty is not a slogan. It is jurisdiction, ownership and operational control: who can compel your data, who operates the network, and whether your prefixes can stay in Europe when it matters.

What sovereignty actually means

For operators it is practical: GDPR/DSGVO as the legal baseline, a European company you can sue and contract with, and infrastructure that is not subject to the US CLOUD Act by default. Prefixes, logs and customer data can stay in EU facilities - Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Zurich - with engineers in the same timezone.

Sovereignty does not mean isolation. TMW still peers globally and operates PoPs outside Europe so your users in Asia or the Americas stay fast. The difference is choice: EU workloads can remain under EU jurisdiction instead of being absorbed into a US-scale platform.

Why hyperscalers are a jurisdiction problem

Cloudflare, AWS and Akamai are excellent at scale. They are also US companies. Legal process that reaches a US parent can reach data and metadata even when the PoP is in Frankfurt. Enterprise contracts, opaque routing and outsourced scrubbing make it hard to answer a simple auditor question: who can compel this packet?

TMW is a German operator. AS215828 is registered at RIPE NCC. We own the hardware, the filtering software and the routing policy end-to-end - no third-party scrubbing centre in the path. Month-to-month contracts, public Looking Glass, PeeringDB and bgp.tools. You can verify the network instead of trusting a datasheet.

What TMW delivers

If you need EU-only placement, we keep it there. If you need global reach with a European legal entity, that is the default: one AS, one team, public routing, no hyperscaler tenancy.

What is European digital sovereignty?

It means your infrastructure, routing and customer data are operated by a European entity under EU law, with a real choice to keep workloads in EU data centres rather than on a US-controlled platform.

Does TMW keep data in the EU?

Yes when you need it. Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Zurich are EU/EEA metros for residency. Global PoPs exist for latency; they are optional, not a requirement to use the network.

Is TMW a replacement for Cloudflare or AWS?

For IP transit, DDoS-protected prefixes, anycast and hosting with a European operator - yes, that is the point. We are not a general-purpose public cloud with hundreds of SaaS products. We run network infrastructure you can verify.

How do I start?

Most deployments begin with a short routing review: prefixes, origin handoff, and whether traffic should stay EU-local or use global PoPs. Talk to engineering - month-to-month, no enterprise procurement loop.
